Globe sedge (or Gray's sedge) is an attractive, grassy plant with unique, spherical seed spikes.  It does not have aggressive rhizomes and can be used as an ornamental sedge that will form a dense clump.

Insects such as butterflies occasionally eat bits of the foliage, but globe sedge is mainly wind-pollinated.  Deer tend to avoid many sedges, while a variety of birds enjoy the seeds.

Globe sedge likes average to wet soil and can tolerate occasional flooding

Uses:  Rain gardens, birds, ornamental
Bloomtime:  June to August (seed spikes appear in midsummer)
