Downy Phlox has a similar shape to wild sweet william (Phlox divaricata). It blooms a little later and its flowers are more pink. Butterflies and hummingbirds use downy phlox as a nectar source.

There are a couple of varieties that we may have throughout the year. The ozark variety will spread slowly and acceptably, finding its way between other plants. They are all long-blooming plants.
