Tall, thick, round stems make this an attractive plant at the pond's edge. It forms dense colonies via underground rhizomes. As long as the soil is moist, it will grow readily; however, it can grow in water up to 3 feet deep. Bulrushes are important for birds, providing seed, cover and nesting material.
