A clumping, ornamental sedge for shady areas with rich, moist soil. Eastern star sedge has fine, narrow leaf blades and star-like flower clusters. It is semi-evergreen.
Another common name for this plant is "straight-styled wood sedge" and it refers to the female flower's style, which is more or less straight. This attribute is often the best way to differentiate C. radiata from its look-alike cousin, C. rosea, whose styles are curled.
