Pecans are long-lived valuable shade trees with sweet, tasty nuts. While their deep taproots make them very drought tolerant, they tend to be found in rich soil with ample moisture. They are fantastic trees for wildlife. Birds will find plenty of insect prey, while other animals will feed on the nuts, twigs, and leaves. Formal settings with lots of traffic may not be ideal sites for pecans due to abundant nut production; otherwise, they are handsome trees and have been used ornamentally for many years.
