Pitcher's leather flower is a small, well-behaved vine that can be allowed to meander where it pleases, or it can be grown on a small trellis. The flowers dangle upside down and sometimes look like pinkish-purple hot-air balloons.
Like Missouri's other clematises, this one will die back to the ground at the end of the growing season. It's unique among them because its seeds lack fuzzy tails.
