American alumroot has greenish, red-tinged flowers that attract a number of small native bees. They're clustered at the top of a flower stalk that is usually 2 or 3 feet tall. Below, the foliage forms round, semi-evergreen tufts of leaves. It's clumping, non-spreading habit makes for a well-behaved groundcover in partial shade.
