The water tupelo thrives in wet, swampy regions and is an excellent choice for planting along the edge of a pond. Its edible fruits attract various birds and wildlife. Although its small, greenish-white flowers may not be visually striking, bees find them highly attractive. A long-lived species, water tupelo can reach heights of up to 80 feet, featuring a trunk with a notably swollen base.
