Roundleaf groundsel makes an excellent ground cover in dappled sun or shady, well-drained areas. The evergreen foliage hugs the ground all year while the fairly short flower stems bloom bright yellow in the spring.
Formerly known as Senecio obovatus.
Uses: Groundcover, bees, butterflies, raingardens
Bloom time: April - May
Height: 10 to 14 inches
Space: 12 to 18 inches
Sun: Half sun to full shade
Moisture: Dry to average
Seed: We now sow the seed immediately after we've harvested and cleaned it in June, and it usually germinates within a week or two. Consistent moisture and indirect sunlight are important. This ensures we'll have mature plants to sell the next season. If June isn't an option, cold moist stratification for at least 3 weeks will help ensure germination.
