Downy Phlox has a similar size & shape to wild sweetwilliam, P. divaricata. Their bloom times overlap a bit, but downy phlox usually blooms a little later and likes sunnier, drier conditions. Butterflies and hummingbirds use downy phlox as a nectar source. Our plants usually have pink flowers, but flower color can vary tremendously within wild populations from white to pink to lavender.
