A large shade tree with many stout limbs and a very broad crown. Once established, you can expect white oak to grow 2 to 3 feet per year in well-drained soil. It is long-lived, reaching 200 to 400 years old. Oaks are one of the most important plants for supporting lepidoptera species (moths & butterflies) and wildlife; hundreds of different moth species feed on oak leaves. Fall color is purplish red.
