Lanceleaf buckthorn is an attractive, smallish shrub that is easy to grow and becoming more popular as an ornamental. It has smooth, gray bark with light patches and small, glossy green leaves. The flowers are greenish-yellow and, at only about 1/8 inch across, are rather inconspicuous. Birds enjoy the shelter of its widely branching habit and happily consume the black fruits that ripen in summer.
