Maryland senna, or wild senna, makes a good accent plant for the center or backstage of a planting. Attractive dark green foliage contrasts nicely with the long inflorescence of yellow flowers that are visited by bumblebees. It is a host plant for several butterflies whose caterpillars rely on Maryland senna as a food source. Though it can be a bit too tall for some situations, its handsome appearance and wildlife benefits make it good choice for ornamental landscaping.
