Many native plants are pollinated by bees and other insects that can't really perceive the color red, so most of our natives don't produce red flowers. Lucky for us, royal catchfly is mainly pollinated by hummingbirds and this means we get to enjoy this scarce color in our native landscapes.
Royal catchfly is a long-lived perennial that will do well in sun or partial shade and average or moist soil. It is easy to grow from seed and immature plants will often bloom their first or second year.
