Like other members of the carrot family, yellow pimpernel is a food source for the caterpillars of some swallowtail butterflies. Bees and other important pollinators are attracted to the interesting flowers which are arranged a large, loose umbel that can be four to seven inches across and is reminiscent of exploding fireworks.
Yellow pimpernel grows naturally in poor soil that can consist of clay and rock, but it should do fine in richer soil as long as it drains well. Habitats include prairies, glades, bluffs, open forests, and savannas.
