There are a few species of spiderwort that can grow in shade, but zigzag spiderwort typically blooms later than the others. The flowers are light blue to violet-blue and are a favorite of bees. Rich, loamy soil in a fair amount of shade is preferred but isn't absolutely necessary. After blooming and setting seed, the plant may go dormant.
