This is the most common violet in Missouri and can be found in lawns and disturbed areas in urban settings. Its small size and ability to spread make it a good alternative for turf lawns and areas that are difficult to mow. Common blue violet can grow in a variety of conditions but won't do as well in dry, full sun. Flowers, which range from violet to blue to white, and young leaves are edible and can be used in salads.
