This showy annual goes by several names: Showy tickseed, tickseed sunflower, swamp marigold, bearded beggarticks, and bur marigold. The seeds, which are eaten by birds, may stick to your clothing in the fall. The yellow flowers attract a tremendous number of beneficial pollinators such as bees, wasps, butterflies, and beetles.
Though it prefers moist conditions, it is drought tolerant. Bur marigold can form incredible swaths of bright golden-yellow when situations are favorable. In those ideal situations, it can reach 6 feet tall. It is more often found growing to about 3 or 4 feet.
