Canada wild rye is easily grown in a variety of conditions. Its an important prairie plant but can also be found growing in savannas, limestone glades, and along creek banks, roadsides, and railroads. Birds will likely avoid eating the seeds, but will find Canada wild rye provides good cover and nesting habitat.
