Virginia waterleaf makes a nice groundcover when grown in rich soil under shaded or partially shaded conditions. Flowers are often white but sometimes have a hint of lilac and are pollinated by bees. Unlike broadleaf waterleaf, the flowers of Virginia waterleaf rise above the foliage. Colonies form as the plants spread via rhizome and seed. The plants may go dormant in the summer if they don't get enough moisture; nevertheless, they are strong perennials and will reappear the following spring.
