Black raspberry has hollow, thimble-like fruit and a white coating on the stems. Blackberry fruits are solid and the stems do not have a white, powdery coating. Black raspberry is a great plant for wildlife, providing shelter and food for many species. The edible berries make excellent jams and jellies or can be eaten raw. Purple stems add color to the winter landscape.
