This large shrub is prized for its showy clusters of dangling, white flowers and unusual seed pods that persist through winter. Bladdernut is a fast-growing plant. Once mature, it can spread slowly via underground runners. It prefers moist areas with dappled shade but does fine in dry conditions when grown in fertile, loamy soil. The seeds can be eaten raw or cooked. Bees are the primary pollinators.
