A tall, showy plant that will really stand out in the back of a flower bed. Use in good, rich soil that receives some extra moisture during dry periods. Bunchflower Lily is slow to mature but worth the wait. In its early years, it consists of basal foliage resembling blades of grass. The greenish-white flowers will attract native beetles and flies and the occasional bee or wasp. This lily has a high toxicity and is avoided by pesky deer and rabbits.

Seed:  Needs at least 6 to 8 weeks of cold, moist stratification. In our experience, it does not tolerate prolonged dry storage; sow it while it is fresh. However, a 2002 study in Illinois claims that year old seed stored at about 40° F loses little viability. Other sources recommend storing in the refrigerator with moist sand. For distributing 30 seeds per square foot, consider the following seeding rates:
  • 200 seeds per packet
  • 10,000 seeds per ounce
  • 1 ounce per 330 square feet
