This is a magnificent small tree with clusters of white flowers in spring and drupes of edible blue fruits in fall that attract birds and mammals. The glossy green leaves turn burgundy in fall. Rusty black haw can be a slow-grower in its early years but once established may devolop suckers that can either be pruned periodically or be allowed grow and form a small thicket for wildlife. Fruits will form on a single tree but fruit production will be much better if there are two or more in an area.
